Accessible Environment Design Activity
13 March 2026
A meaningful and awareness-raising event was held at the Department of Architecture, Faculty of Architecture, Balıkesir University, as part of the "Accessible Environment Design" course led by Dr. Figen Altıner.
Nasuh Kuş, a first-year student at the Faculty of Theology, Balıkesir University, shared his experiences with our students regarding the architectural and spatial problems faced by visually impaired individuals in daily life. He highlighted the importance of architectural design on the quality of life for disabled individuals by presenting examples of the difficulties encountered in accessibility in urban spaces, buildings, and public areas.
In the question-and-answer session, our students had the opportunity to directly ask questions about how visually impaired individuals experience spaces. The program, which involved a mutual exchange of ideas, created a very productive learning environment for our students.
We would like to thank our Vice Dean, Dr. Figen Altıner, for organizing this event and Nasuh Kuş for this valuable sharing; we also want to emphasize that we will continue to strengthen the understanding of inclusive and accessible design in architectural education.
