Mission of the Department of Architecture
The Mission of the Department of Architecture is to educate architects who are qualified to practice their profession in national and international platforms, who can establish interdisciplinary relationships, produce creative and innovative solutions, are sensitive to the social, cultural and physical environment, think critically and respect professional ethics, and to educate self-confident, expert academics who demonstrate success in national and international arenas through scientific research, publications and applications.
Vision of the Architecture Department
To be a respected regional, national, and international institution in education, research, and practice. To closely monitor developing technology to enhance educational quality and ensure the continuous development of educational programs in line with contemporary requirements. To be a center for significant scientific studies and events at both national and international levels. To cultivate architects and academics who are researchers, alternative producers, and capable of developing flexible and creative solutions in the design and construction processes of the built environment.
History of the Department of Architecture
The Department of Architecture at Balıkesir University's Faculty of Architecture was established in 1992 and began its program in the 1993-1994 academic year. The department offers a regular program (in Turkish). It also offers master's and doctoral programs. The department's curriculum includes four departments: Building Science, Structural Engineering, Surveying, and Architectural History. The department has a total of 18 faculty members: 4 Professors, 3 Associate Professors, 4 Assistant Professors, and 7 Research Assistants.
